Break the Summer Fun Stereotype in Copenhagen, Denmark
Summer in Copenhagen promises lots of fun for locals, tourists, artists and photographers. While the locals and tourists go around the city in rented bikes or enjoy the parks, other western parts of the globe are still shaking off the winter chill. But in Copenhagen, the fun has started and there is more to biking and hiking or chilling out in great music festivals. For your trip make your schedule flexible and get the best flights to Copenhagen.
Not Just Summer Things to Do
Tourists are bombarded with a list of things to do wherever they go; that's fine but in Copenhagen, to restrict your outings and activities to a recommended list robs you of the surprise and fun of a Copenhagen summer. What about experiencing the late afternoon views that scenic photography captured for posterity?
Watch the shadows as the late sun sets - across the Tycho Brahe Planetarium you get a first-hand view as sky and lake mirror each other while the planetarium is also reflected on the waters of Lake Jergen. It is a sight to behold and it's free.
Experiencing Copenhagen during summer won't be complete without spending a late afternoon at the Nyahavn area. It's a tourist cliché but this is where you can get a feel of the Copenhagen. A crowd of sailors and tourists take the time out to have a drink or two along the short street lined up with restaurants and shops, set against a backdrop of well-kept 18th century houses. If you want a tattoo, this is where you should go.
While others are busy biking along city's environs, take a break and sneak a trip to see Kronborg Castle near Elsinore City or Helsingor, 50 kms from Copenhagen. If you don't know it yet, this castle was immortalized by Shakespeare in his play, Hamlet. Today the castle, which is actually a fortress, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To reach the area, get yourself to the Copenhagen Central Station for a ride to Elsinore Station. From the Station you can already see the Castle, which is about a 20 minute walk away.
If you are going there by car, drive along the North Sealan coast or take the E-47 towards Helsingor. This is one place to see during summer when the sun stays up until 10 p.m. or about 8 hours a day. This castle should definitely be in your travel schedule.
More Sunny Days
When the sun shines longer during summer, everyone gets the urge to soak in the sun. Picnics and biking, and promenading in the park are free activities everyone squeezes into their day. If you want to max out on your Copenhagen summer holiday, take to the beach or to nearby islets to experience breath-taking sunset views.
If you miss the beach, hit the Amager Beach, 5 kilometers from Copenhagen's busy center. You either stay along the mainland beach or travel further to two kilometer stretch of island. From the island you can get a good view of the Swedish coast.
There are actually so many things to do in Copenhagen. If you are there for a short stay, get to the pulse of the city spirit and history. For your accommodations, book your hotel Copenhagen online and grab hotel summer deals for families, couples, and students before the world decides to go for a Copenhagen summer holiday.
