Going Out at Night in Copenhagen
Copenhagen is consistently rated as one of the most livable cities in the world, so it comes as no surprise to visitors that the quality of the nightlife in the city is also one of the best in Scandinavia. The Danes are probably one of the most laid back, party-loving nations on the continent.
Party Codes
Before you even think of sauntering into the many pubs and clubs of Copenhagen, there are a few things to remember about the Danish sensibility when it comes to partying. First and foremost, the Danes know how to hold their drinks although the drinking may have lasted from sundown to sunrise. Guests are expected to do the same, so if you are not used to drinking, don't even place a bet with a Dane.
You also need to be at least 18 years old to be served alcoholic beverages at the pubs and nightclubs although minors aged 16 are legally permitted to purchase alcohol from shops. Each establishment will have minimum ages for entry above the minimum age of 18 with many clubs only allowing individuals in the 25-27 categories. Individuals may be required to show a valid ID for this purpose.
Also, the dress code in many Danish nightclubs is smart casual - no jeans, no sneakers and no sandals. Just make sure that you are presentable in your neat, casual clothes.
Party Hours
The Copenhagen nightlife scene comes alive at around 9 in the evening when the people go for their hygge in the cafes followed by the party at around 1 in the early morning until the sun deems it necessary to stop the revelry by 5 or 6. So you had better start getting used to partying late and finishing early - in the morning, that is.
You may be wondering what hygge is all about. Well, there is no English equivalent of the concept. Danes will describe it as a state of coziness, of tranquility and of the complete absence of anything and everything irritating. It is a highly valued Dane custom that even visitors will find relaxing, almost like a preparation for the all-night party later on.
Party Venues
The beauty of Copenhagen nightlife is that everybody is included in the party. The younger set will congregate in the discos and nightclubs with pounding music and swaying bodies. The older generations will settle in jazz pubs and clubs serving good beer and good food, conversating and discussing everything under the sun.
Start with the Tivoli Gardens where jazz and folk groups compete with vaudeville acts for your attention. Or if you want to just take in the sights and sounds of the city, take a walk along the Nyhavn (New Harbor), the Christianshavn and even exotic Christiania for the more adventurous party animals.
Copenhagen deserves its title as one of the most livable cities in the world, thanks in part to its nightlife. So, book your hotel room via the Internet today and get a feel for its nightlife!
